Description

Laboratory exhaust gas treatment system

The laboratory has always played an important role in the current era and is becoming increasingly popular. New products increasingly require new test and control conditions that can be applied.

During the operation, conduct chemical reactions, and prepare solutions, … the evaporation of chemical substances is inevitable.

Therefore, the installation of an exhaust gas treatment system for the laboratory becomes indispensable.

What is Laboratory Exhaust Gas Treatment? Dangerous how?

Through the results of environmental monitoring in laboratories, laboratory gases can be classified into two main categories:

  • Acid Vapors: This category includes inorganic acid vapors and organic acid vapors. These acidic compounds can be harmful to environmental health.
  • Organic Compound Vapors: In the laboratory, organic substances are highly volatile. Many organic and inorganic compounds can be neuropathic, even at low concentrations.
  • They cause dizziness, shortness of breath, and nausea, affecting motor functions.

In addition, some solvents and reagents such as ethers, chloroform, and carbon tetrachloride can cause paralysis and damage the mucous membranes of the nose, throat, and eyes. Aromatic compounds such as benzene, pyridine, and toluene can cause serious diseases such as cancer.

Due to the complexity and danger of laboratory emissions, installing an exhaust treatment system is extremely important. This system must ensure that exhaust gases are not allowed to escape into the environment inside the laboratory and do not negatively affect the surrounding area. This ensures employee safety and protects the environment from contaminants.

How does a laboratory exhaust gas treatment system work?

The suction systems will collect contaminated gas in the laboratory. It is then moved through the pipe to the handling equipment installed outside. To treat exhaust gas, it must go through two separate stages: absorption and adsorption

The adsorption phase

This stage intends to remove airborne contaminants by introducing them into absorbents/solutions. During this process, the pollutants will react and dissolve into the absorbent or solution to remove them from the exhaust gas.

Absorption stage

Here, absorbent materials such as activated carbon and adsorbent particles are used to adsorbate pollutants in the exhaust gas. These materials have a large surface area and can chemically interact with pollutants, thereby adsorbing them and giving cleaner emissions.

Thanks to this process, the pollutants in the exhaust gas are effectively removed and treated before being released into the environment. The exhaust gas treatment system minimizes emissions’ negative impact on the surrounding environment, ensuring safety for employees and the community.
